Exploring Nebraska
This weekend Natalie and I turned a quick photoshoot into an exploration of southwestern Nebraska. I am referring to it as an exploration because I haven't ever been south of I80, with the exception of Lincoln. My assignment took me out to McCook, Nebraska; population 7,994 (0.45% African American, thanks wikipedia). My biggest regret on the trip was that we missed the sandhill crane migration by about a week. If you haven't ever seen the cranes along I80 during the middle or march, mark it on your calendar for next year. Half a million huge birds flying over the interstate in large "kettles" (again, wikipedia). They don't fly in crappy V's like other birds, it is more of a giant blob of cranes. It's pretty cool. Back to our trip. Aside from seeing the world's smallest Runza restaurant in Holdrege, we stopped at Windmill State Park. Expecting to see dozens of windmills, we were very disappointed to find only two. The name was very misleading. With Natalie passed out in the front seat for 3/4s of the ride home, I decided to make the Windmill State Park our last stop.
