Frozen Fingers

Tonight I shot the always entertaining Nebraska/ Creighton baseball game. I made the trip up to Omaha a little early so that I could shoot a quick portrait of some Nebraska soccer recruits at Millard South. Since I evidently don't know how to read, I showed up about an hour and a half early. Normally this wouldn't have bothered me, but because there was a wind chill of about 5 degrees, I had to sit in my car the entire time. I got the portrait and made my way to the baseball game. To my surprise, there wasn't any traffic near the stadium. I burned a little time in the press box with the ol' CWS crew (AP and World-Herald) and proceeded to shoot the coldest baseball game in my life. By the fourth inning, I could no longer feel my fingers. I couldn't tell if I had my finger on the shutter release or not. It didn't help that the game was running at a pace of about an inning every half hour. I figured that with a 9-2 lead, I could take a little warm up break in the press box. I would move some photos and maybe take the rest of the night off. What was I thinking, it is Nebraska/ Creighton? Creighton stormed back, leaving me on the edge of my seat, wondering if I was going to have to go back out into the cold. Turns out, the Huskers won, 12-10, allowing me to watch the remaining 5 innings in the warmth of the heated press box (with about half of the remaining fans. I thought that the picture of the Cornhusker fan, with the single tear on his cheek (probably crying because he was so cold), told the story of the night pretty well. Wow it was cold.
